Size Chart and Measurments
The costume sizes offered are not street sizes. Just because the dancer wears an Adult Small in clothing, does not mean they will wear an Adult Small in dancewear. Dancewear is made to fit tight and has a reputation of running small. My dancer wears an AXS in popular athletic brands sold in stores, but a Small for tops and a Medium for bottoms in The Dance Base Store’s line.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SIZE:
Please make sure accurate measurements are taken and that you understand how a size chart works. This is the biggest mistake customers make when placing an order.
• Accurate measurements are a must. The most common mistake is using the wrong hip measurements. Hip measurements are taken around the widest part of the bottom, not the hip bones. There is a significant difference when using the wrong measurements and this may cause the costume to be too small.
• How size ranges work on a measurement chart: The lower end of the range is the size the costume is made for. For instance, if there is a range of 35 to 37 inches for hips, the costume is made for 35 inches, but the material can stretch to 37 inches if needed. Some may find the costume snug if their measurements are 36 to 37 inches. The costume will fit as it can stretch, but it may be tight.
• It is always best to stay at the lower end of the size range. If a dancer is on the higher end of the range, the costume will be tight since that is the maximum a dancer can be and still fit into the costume.
The same goes for chest, waist, and girth. Please ensure the dancer is within range for all of the measurements. If the dancer is over the range in the waist, but in the range for hips, the bottoms will still be tight since waist to hip ratio plays a big part.
***If you have questions on sizing, you can always send me the measurements, and I will advise on the best fit.
Please note that we do our best to ensure an accurate fit, but body types play a huge role in ensuring the costume fits well. Some alterations may be needed since our costumes are not made to the dancer's exact measurements. The Dance Base Store is not responsible for alterations should they be needed. Like clothing purchased in a store, not all styles may fit well just because it is the right size.
Keep in mind, these are budget-friendly costumes, and even with potential alterations, the total cost is typically much lower than that of a custom-made costume.
Since body types and shapes vary, it is likely that you may need alterations, especially to any costumes that are “strappy”. Alterations for strap adjustments are easy, affordable, and will give the costume a “custom fitted” look.
